Advice on Hair Loss Prevention, Treatments and Hair Restoration

All About Women and Hair Loss

Although society does not associate women and hair loss, the fact is that about 40 percent of women lose some of their hair as they age. Menopause and hair loss symptoms seem to coincide in a lot of cases. For women facing this situation the psychological impacts can be difficult.

Whether the symptoms of balding are brought on by genetics, menopause or disease, facing the loss of hair can be devastating for a woman. Society expects women to have well coiffed hair. Self-esteem may suffer greatly and even quality of life can come into play when a woman experiences balding.

What a Woman Can do When Hair Loss Symptoms Arise

The first thing is to check with a doctor. Even if menopause is ongoing or is suspected, other conditions might be causing a woman to lose her hair. Baldness can be a symptom in a number of diseases and illness, so it’s best to let a doctor decide what the actual cause of the loss is.

Depending on what the doctor finds, the symptom of hair loss can be treated in a number of ways. Rogaine or other medications might prove effective for a woman facing shedding or thinning whether menopause is present or not. Hormone treatments may help as well to retard or stop hair loss.

In menopause there are a number of “normal” hair loss scenarios a woman may face. These forms of balding are not due to disease by itself. Genetics can play a role and losing hair due to it is actually quite common. This type of balding can become symptomatic in women as young as age 12, or it may not appear until menopause.

The hormonal changes of menopause may show themselves, too, with the symptoms of hair loss in women. If this is the case, medications to retard or stop further balding may help. Other options include hair replacement for women facing menopause – surgical or not.

Regardless of the extent of shedding or thinning, if the symptom arises, a woman should seek medical advice. It may be a normal symptom of menopause, or the loss could be a sign of another condition. No matter the cause, there are ways for women to deal with lost hair and retain or regain self-esteem. There’s no reason for women to suffer through hair loss.
