What Happens After Hair Replacement Surgery
Some people considering hair restoration surgeries are
concerned not only about the procedure, but about what happens after hair
replacement surgery is completed. This is an important feature of making
an informed decision about hair loss surgery, so do talk to the doctor or
clinic that will be performing the procedure about these issues.
There are several different forms of surgeries that can be done to replace
lost hair, but the general results and what happens after surgery are the
same. After-care for each of these
hair transplantation methods is important to successful results. If you
are getting “grafts,” tiny sections containing follicles with hair are taken
individually from a donor area (usually the back and sides of the head).
These will then be transplanted in tiny sections into the balding area. This
usually heals quickly, and within a day or two you can do anything you
normally do.
There is no “down time” with a surgical replacement procedure of this type.
You will immediately have thicker, fuller hair. What happens after about
three months is that these transplanted, live hairs will begin permanently
growing and within a year your hair loss will be a thing of the past as the
transplanted hair catches up with the natural growth pattern of your real
hair.
Of course, central to the success of fighting the battle against losing your
hair is being sure you have an excellent
hair restoration surgeon who has done many
replacement and transplant procedures. Be sure to ask about the healing
time, what you can expect after the surgery and how many follow-up visits
you will need. All of these questions can put your mind at ease about what
happens during and after hair
transplant surgery.
