Sudden Hair Loss Causes
Sudden Hair Loss Causes
When you experience the onset of rapid balding, you need to
look for the underlying reasons to diagnose these sudden
hair loss causes.
There are many reasons for rapid hair loss, a condition called Telogen
Effluvium. Sudden stress can cause the hair to fall out or exhibit itself as
thinning all over the scalp. This may not occur until two or three months
later because during the time of stress the follicles stop growing suddenly
and go into a resting phase. After a period of time they fall out. In most
cases, this is a temporary condition and resolves itself rapidly when stress
is relieved.
Child Birth May Cause Shedding
Women who have recently given birth can experience a sudden loss of hair and
the same can occur with taking birth control pills. This is because the body
develops high levels of estrogen that cause the hair to grow rapidly. When
the levels balance out, women start to lose a lot of hair. Once it does fall
out, normal growth resumes.
Rapid Balding due to Surgery
The shock the body receives in surgery is another cause for a sudden loss of
hair. This is because the body redirects the major blood supply to the
affected area and this could cause the hair follicles to become deficient in
the amount of nutrients they need to grow normally. The result is a rapid
loss of hair. It is normal for everyone to lose hair every day, but when it
is not growing as it should, you will lose more than the normal amount.
Sudden Balding due to Medications
There are also some medications that have hair loss as a side effect. Blood
thinners, medication for gout and treatment for high cholesterol are among
the leading prescription drugs that cause sudden hair loss. These
medications do not affect everyone in the same way and some may not
experience balding at a rapid pace at all. When you stop taking these
medications, normal hair growth resumes. You do have to consult with your
doctor before you take this step though, because these medications are
important for your overall health.
