Post Pregnancy Hair Loss
Post Pregnancy Hair Loss Is Quite Common
Post pregnancy hair loss is very common in women that
have just had a baby. It is one of the leading causes of female hair loss
and although it may be traumatic for those who start to lose their hair, it
is not a permanent condition. Thinning or shedding does not usually occur
until about two or three months after the pregnancy. Once the hair falls
out, normal growth resumes.
For women who have gone through a pregnancy, the cause of the hair loss that
sometimes occurs is the body’s way of getting the female hormones back into
the proper balance. When a woman is pregnant, the body produces more than
the normal amounts of estrogen to provide the nourishment the womb needs.
Females may not even notice that they have a higher rate of growth while
they are pregnant and in the post pregnancy stage this excess hair falls
out.
Temporary hair loss in women may occur
during pregnancy because the higher estrogen level causes the follicles to
grow at a faster rate and then goes into a resting stage. It is normal for
this hair to fall out after a while and in post pregnancy, there is more
hair present at this stage. Therefore females lose more than the normal
amount of hair each day, which might lead them to think they are going bald
or that they have a serious illness.
Once all the dead hair has fallen out in the post pregnancy stage, it
resumes its normal rate of growth. It is normal to lose some hair each day
as they reach the various stages of development on the head. It is usually
females with long hair who notice thinning more than those who have always
had short hair once a pregnancy is over. It is also possible that
complications during the nine months or with the birth can also cause this
situation to occur because of the stress involved, but this too is a
temporary condition.
