Choosing The Right Male Hair Loss Treatment
Choosing the right male hair loss treatment is a key first
step to dealing with loss of hair. Most men will opt first for the best
non-surgical hair replacement technique they can find. For the vast
majority, male balding can be effectively dealt with through treatment with
a medication such as Rogaine (minoxidil) or Propecia (finasteride).
A non-surgical technique is generally the first treatment strategy favored
by males seeking to replace their lost hair. Because it is less invasive
than a surgical option, there is generally no loss of work time and it is
best able to generate new growth if you experience
common male pattern baldness.
Topical Medications
There are two FDA approved non-surgical options for treatment of male
pattern baldness. The first – Rogaine – is an effective technique for men
who are losing their hair to stimulate new growth or even replace what has
been lost. It is a topical medication that is available over the counter in
most drug stores, grocery stores, and large discount retailers. Rogaine is
an easy, discreet way to treat baldness at home.
Oral Medications
The other FDA approved non-surgical replacement technique uses the
hair loss product Propecia – the best
prescription oral medication that can only be used to treat balding in
males. Propecia can cause severe birth defects, so women who are or may
become pregnant cannot take it or even handle the pills. Regardless of
whether you choose Propecia or Rogaine, you must continue to use the
medication to maintain any regrowth that occurs.
Have Your Condition Diagnosed
The most common reason that a man will go bald is male pattern baldness, an
inherited tendency, but there are other conditions that can cause balding as
well. An underlying disease such as diabetes or an autoimmune disorder, or
even some medications such as anti-depressants, can cause hair to thin or be
lost altogether. This is why it is better to see a doctor to get a correct
diagnosis in order to select the best non-surgical treatment or replacement
technique available.
