Advice on Hair Loss Prevention, Treatments and Hair Restoration |
Some Causes of Hair Loss More Unpredictable Than OthersThe causes of hair loss are numerous, and one of the least understood types of baldness is alopecia areata. This is a type of hair loss that is identified by circular patches of hair falling out on particular parts of the body, especially the scalp and face. Because this doesn’t look like the typical female or male pattern baldness, many sufferers are particularly upset when they develop it. There are also misunderstandings today about alopecia areata and hair transplantation procedures. Alopecia Areata and TransplantationYou may not realize that if you are suffering for a long period of time with alopecia areata and you have lost a significant amount of hair, medical hair restoration or transplantation is a viable option. There are also topical treatments, injections and oral medications that can be used to help stop or reverse the cause of hair loss. However, if you’ve lost a significant amount of hair over a long period of time, a surgical solution used in conjunction with these other treatments may get you the best results.
Alopecia areata is caused by an immune system reaction. For some reason, the
white blood cells in the body attack the hair follicles, causing them to
become smaller and preventing new growth. The hair will also fall out
quicker and be recognizable by the patching, circular patterns of bald
spots. In some cases, medications or topical creams may prevent further loss, but this is usually when the condition isn’t advanced or hasn’t lasted
that long, in which case transplantation may be the best option to restore
your scalp to its former glory.
