Acne and Hair Loss
Acne and Hair Loss Can Be Signs of Other Problems
Adults who find themselves facing acne and hair loss
might want to consider looking for underlying causes. There are a number of
diseases that cause hair loss, some serious, others less so, and acne can
sometimes go along with these diseases. Whether they’re actual symptoms of
disease, thinning hair and acne are concerns for patients so they should be
addressed no matter the cause.
For women, thinning or shedding caused by disease can be particularly
troubling. Underlying conditions that can lead to lost hair and even acne
include hormone problems, pregnancy, stress, obesity and even other, more
serious diseases. If the body is stressed, acne and balding may appear as
side effects. The medical causes for acne and balding in men are similar.
When it comes to adult acne in both men and women, the disease can be
difficult to treat. Sometimes hormones are effective, which might also help
with the hair loss as well. Women often are given birth control pills to
help them stave off adult acne; a trick that often works wonders.
Dermatologists though might need to be consulted for diagnosing the causes
of particularly stubborn forms of acne.
Hair loss in women can be attributed
to a number of things that range from hormonal issues to stress and from
medicine and infection. Therefore, it’s very important for those who find
themselves facing both balding and acne to seek medical advice. Only a
doctor can help determine if the condition is a simple side effect to
medicine or if a more serious cause is to blame. Remember that sudden hair
loss and even the appearance of acne don’t necessarily signal a huge medical
problem or disease. Also, the hair that’s lost might not be gone forever if
the cause is discovered and tackled.
