Hair Loss in Women
Hair Loss in Women is Emotionally Devastating
Hair loss in women
causes much more devastating social and emotional damage than those in men
in most cases, primarily because it is less accepted for women to lose their
hair. Fortunately, there are women’s hair replacement systems that can work
for them regardless of the type of baldness they develop.
It is a common misconception that there is basically only “female pattern
baldness.” Actually women develop hair loss for a variety of reasons which
may require eventual hair replacement. In some women, going on the birth
control pill or going through menopause starts loss of hair as the follicles
react to the shift in hormone levels. Even thyroid problems and a
post-partum imbalance of your system can cause hair loss (also called
androgenetic alopecia).
For others, it can be caused by a change in the growth pattern of the hair
so that much of it is being shed at the same time rather than in cycles.
This is known as Female Telogen Effluvium.
Non-surgical replacement options for female hair loss are varied, and
include using topical treatments and/or oral medications to stimulate
re-growth. There are also a variety of injections and shampoos that can be
worked in combination with the other treatments to stimulate hair growth.
These systems usually show good results in most women within three to six
months.
More popular with women suffering from hair loss, however, are replacement
systems that give an immediate result.
Medical hair restoration and
transplantation methods are so advanced today that it is almost
impossible to tell that the procedure has been done, and the results can be
a real boon to a woman’s self-esteem.
Other options for women include weaves (for hair loss from thinning rather
than significant balding) and non-surgical hair
replacement systems that implant real hair in a membrane that mimics
skin. This last method is one of the newer options and is light-years beyond
a wig and can be worn in the shower, night and day, even swimming.
If you are a woman and you are starting to lose some of your hair, be sure
to research all options and systems of treating, replacing or transplanting
your hair fully – then get your confidence back with a full head of hair!
